This workshop focuses on creating ceramic sculptures inspired by organic forms, natural structures and the qualities of clay itself.

During the three-hour workshop, you will learn how to build a hollow ceramic sculpture of up to approximately 20 cm. We will explore how to construct a three-dimensional form while keeping the walls even and the interior hollow, allowing the sculpture to dry and fire safely without cracking or breaking.

You will learn how to develop an organic form directly from the clay and explore different ways of building, joining and shaping clay, as well as how to support more delicate and unusual forms during the making process.

A part of the workshop will focus on creating and using marbled clay. You will learn how to combine different coloured clays, prepare the material without losing the character of each colour, and create a marbled clay body. We will then use this material to build the sculpture, working with the pattern to become part of the form itself.

We will also look at the relationship between structure and surface. You will learn how to refine the shape, work with edges and transitions, and preserve the natural marks and movement created during the building process.

An important part of the workshop is learning how to dry a sculptural piece correctly. We will show you how to control the drying process, protect delicate areas and reduce the risk of cracking or warping before firing.

The finished sculptures will be fired at Estet Studio without glaze. The final firing will preserve the natural texture and colour of the clay, leaving the sculptures with a raw, tactile ceramic surface.
