During this workshop you will learn how to work with plaster moulds and liquid clay, from preparing the casting slip to casting, pouring slip to forms  and finishing your pieces.
 
We will show you how to achieve the proper consistency of casting clay and how the consistency affects the thickness, surface and final result of the cast. You will learn how to prepare and fill the moulds correctly and how to work with the cast once it has set enough to be removed from the mould.
 
Alongside the basic casting process, we will explore more experimental ways of working with forms. You will learn how different clays, raw materials, natural materials and pigments can be incorporated into the slip to create different colours, textures and effects during firing. We will experiment with the possibilities of using the mould not only to reproduce a form, but also as a surface for creating abstract compositions with clay.
 
We will talk about different types of clay and introduce you to the possibilities of porcelain paper clay, exploring its properties and how it can be used together with forms.
 
During the workshop, each participant will make approximately 2–4 pieces of tableware and have the opportunity to experiment with the material, colour and surface of each cast.
 
One Open Studio Session is included, where you can return to the studio during Open Studio hours to glaze your finished casts and continue working with your pieces.
 
All materials, moulds, tools, glazing and firing are included in the price.
